I used to carry a torch,
Like a statue of liberty,
And in my chest, I kept a flame
Like the phosphorescence
That the sea has at night.
My smile radiated a warm serenity.
Until the sequence
Of your comets
Stopped tracing my path
And the meander of your rivers
Beside me stopped passing.
I used to carry a lantern,
Like a colossus of Rhodes,
And in me shone a flash
Comparable to that painted
By the northern lights in the sky.
The reign of peace could be seen on my face.
Until the echo of your planets
Stopped resonating in my atmosphere
And the circuit of your moons
Through my orbit stopped rotating.
I used to hold a luminous flashlight,
Like the Baghdad battery,
And in my soul, I sheltered
The fractal iridescence
Of the butterflies and their fluttering.
My body was governed by serenity.
Until the symphony of your waves
Stopped playing in my ocean
And the migration of your clouds
In my sky stopped dancing.
