Oh! In life I advanced
With the unwavering dignity
Of Queen Vashti
When she refused to cross
The majestic threshold
Of King Ahasuerus.
Something told me that
When I met you
My inner strength
Would be intimidated.
My forehead, raised with pride,
Did not allow my eyes
To stray.
Without stopping I walked,
Without looking back,
With the impulse of fear
Of transforming
Into a statue of stone and salt,
The same as if I
Were Lot's wife.
But in one of the imprecise
Turns of your will,
You circumnavigated my shores,
You explored my atoms,
You approached, flammable,
My inner fire.
Then your being became entangled with mine,
Breaking my abstinence from love.
With your sweet sincere smile,
The constant cadence of my footprints
Towards affliction was broken,
You made me cross the threshold
In which my straight route
Towards unsettling pain was twisted.
A dazzling magic exploded
Inside me,
I felt like a trembling volcano.
I lived the roar of Vesuvius,
Mauna Loa,
Krakatoa,
Popocatepetl.
Since then, my anguish generated
By loneliness
Has been erased
And what I long for is
For the nerve in my leg
To extend
And my lungs not to get tired
When galloping
And thus, give myself over to the feast
Of your body,
For the rest of the days
That wait for me to breathe.
